Choosing a Trusted and Knowledgeable Survey Consultant:
If cracking or bulging (spalling) concrete is a reoccurring problem on the balconies, walkways, or parking garage of your building, it is important that a structural consultant be retained to conduct an informal assessment and provide appropriate action steps. Based on this assessment, you can decide whether to hire a consultant or fix the issues in-house. If the decision is made to hire an consultant, they will likely perform a formal conditions assessment. Once these services are performed, the engineer typically provides recommendations and options which include cost considerations and building service life analysis. Cathodic protection (CP) is normally recommended at this point based on building age, structural design, etc.
